Let's use Veracrypt in TrueCrypt compatibility mode (option -tc) and without acceleration (-m=nokernelcrypto) to mount the disk.

sudo veracrypt -tc -m=nokernelcrypto  --mount truecrypt_safe.img /tmp/tmpmnt
